I don’t feel I’m being the AH but I need to get this off my chest nonetheless.
I first met my husband’s family in June while we were engaged and driving through their state to move to our next duty station. That Christmas I made his dad step mom and younger sister shirts with my Cricut and I put a design on a coffee tumbler for his step mom. They all came out great and I was very proud of my work! I sent these gifts via USPS to their home.
A couple weeks went by and I had not heard anything from them but I knew the gift had been delivered. So, I reached out asking if they received their gifts to which I got a response telling me they had and a thank you. And that was it. I don’t really know what I was expecting but I was genuinely hurt. I put so much time and effort into their gifts and making sure they were perfect.
Fast forward to last Christmas they asked for our children’s wish lists so I sent them to them. But I do not send them gifts. And honestly I am still hurt by it now two years later. My husband knew how hurt I was and it does not bother him that I don’t send them anything. And it will be the same this Christmas.
And another thing that has bothered me is that my husband and I have lived 10 hours from them for the last 2.5 years now and we now have a 1.5 yr old and they have never made an attempt to come visit however, every holiday they ask if we are going to come visit. I do invite them to come up each holiday but they never have. Now we are getting ready to move again this time to Hawaii and they are asking if we will make it to visit them before we move. Again my husband is not bothered by this but I am. I have a very close relationship with my family and I’d love for his dad’s side to be involved but they just aren’t.
