Last night I asked my boyfriend to help with dinner. We’ve been together for over 3 years, and dinner is daunting to me some days. He asked me what he needed for his part of the recipe and I listed it off for him. A few minutes later he asked me if what he was making looked right because it was soupy. I simply asked him, “did you add the flour?” He immediately got defensive and mocked my question but said it more rude and offensively. My mouth dropped because I never said it like how he presented it and it was a simple question. He then went on to say I never told him he needed it when I originally listed what he needed. I know I can be forgetful, but I also know I do not forget what I said from 2 minutes ago.

He got mad and stormed off. Made the rest of dinner myself and still served him his food. Awkward tension for an hr, then when I tell him how that interaction made me feel and how I didn’t like that he “mocked” the way I said the question he completely gets upset again and storms off because he feels like he’s always the root of the problem. For context, we do not normally have disagreements or major arugments. I think I’ve only “yelled” one time and that was years ago because of an aggressive driving situation we were in. He stated that I raise my voice and that isn’t true at all. I was talking to him in a calm demeanor even after the first initial “problem”.
I just felt so confused and still a bit confused about the situation. Of course I said I was sorry, but I never got one back and he said that he never mocked me. We just went to bed after he hugged me for a few minutes, but I don’t feel anything was resolved and I still don’t feel like I was the one who needed to say sorry.
I also know how DUMB this situation is, but I need to know if I was the Ahole here.
