AITAH for dating an 18 yo when I’m 31?
I’m a 31 year old gay man who started going out with an 18 year old man I met on Bumble.
i had my range to like 18-47, so I’m open to a wide variety of people, my mindset has always been if they’re an adult it depends on the person.
And recently I hit it off with this 18 year old guy I met on Tinder. By recently I mean one week ago. We had our first date yesterday night and it went really well, I enjoy his company.
Im not gonna pretend there isn’t a massive difference in stage of life, Ive graduated college, i have a masters and been working full time for nearly a decade and hes still a senior in high school (even worse he turned 18 in early Jan so hes technically a 2008), so I was extremely hesitant and having constant doubts. The 2008 part just threw me off cuz I forgot it’s 2026 and they can now be adults. But i figured since he’s an adult and I do think he’s hot and like him, I should at least give him a chance.
Why am I asking if I’m the asshole? Cuz when I told my friends about the new guy I was dating, I was expecting they would think it’s weird but understand he’s an adult so it’s fine, but they went off at me calling me a predator, a pervert, saying he’s a child, and basically equating me to someone who goes after minors even though I’ve only ever been open to 18+. Now they won’t even talk to me.
