I’ve been at my job at a doctors office a little over a year.

They give an annual Christmas bonus check (no idea how much). We got an email that these would be delivered to us on 12/18. Cool, but I need to leave about 30 minutes early that day to get to my daughter’s Christmas dance recital. 4pm rolls around yesterday and no checks have been seen. I start to question if we are actually getting them today because no matter how much they are worth, I need the money. I have a 4 month old and I got no pay during my very short maternity leave, and paying for daycare is wrecking our finances. Finally we see the office manager walking around with envelopes. But when he gets to us, he asks where the doctor is, he’s in a room seeing a patient. So the manager leaves, refusing to hand the checks to anyone but the doctor so he can make a big show of it, giving the checks to us like it’s from him. This doctor is constantly 1-2 hours behind, we rarely get to eat lunch, and we never get to leave on time. He’s hard to catch standing around in the hallway. I wait until right before I leave before I call our HR lady. I explain to her I’m leaving early and I hate to ask for my check.. but I’m asking for my check.
“You’ll have to get it tomorrow from the doctor because he wanted to give it to you.” And I swear I saw red. I clocked out and left without talking to anyone. I get it’s only one day difference, but why tf does it matter who physically hands me the check? I feel like I acted like an immature brat, but these higher ups and doctors in the office (most likely) don’t understand how much I’m struggling financially. It’s a gift, and I’m thankful, but I bust my ass for this office every day and never ask for anything in return. The doc is only going to be there for about 3 hours Friday morning and I can almost guarantee he will forget that he has my check unless I remind him. Is my anger justified or AITA?
