AITA for not listening to my boyfriend?
I (24f) am in an LDR with my boyfriend (26m). I’m in Michigan and he is in Texas. We’re both feeling the results of the recent election.
I’m feeling fear. I did two things as soon as I woke up the morning after the election. I booked an appointment to get a passport.
That appointment has came and gone and now I’m waiting for it to show up in the mail. I also made an appointment to get an IUD. It was harder to get that appointment, all the clinics in my area are booked, I searched all over within a 2 hour radius and I would either find no availability or if they had availability, they didn’t take my insurance.
After all the searching, I’m driving over an hour away to Detroit later this month because they had the only clinic with any availability that would take my insurance. My boyfriend isn’t happy. He is mad that I am doing this.
He said ‘but what if I want to have kids?’ I told him that the results of the election won’t put his life on the line if there is a national abortion ban. It won’t put his life on the line if I had an ectopic pregnancy. It won’t put his life on the line if I had an incomplete miscarriage.
It won’t put his life on the line if some health issue came up and the best way to treat it was to terminate. I told him that in this political climate, this is not a risk I am willing to take. He doesn’t seem to get it.
He’s still trying to push his narrative on me, he even got his mom involved and she backed him up. She tried telling me that I was in the wrong for not considering his feelings. He also tried to get my mom to push his narrative on me.
Spoiler alert, she’s driving me to Detroit for my appointment. My mom is an older gen x who sees through what Republicans have to say and has never voted for them. She was not having my boyfriend’s crap and told him where to stick it.
I told him that I don’t care what he says, I am doing what I need to do for my own body. I’m not telling him what to do with his body, he isn’t going to do the same to me.
