Am I the only one who absolutely hates how the emergence of cellphones and instant communication has led to this sort of expectation of time?
Wife has an ear infection, is laying down resting, her cousin who is visiting from out of town messages her, asks if we are home for visit. She is laying down resting so doesn’t see/ respond. Mother-In-Law calls, twice, which we have already all agreed that means Emergency, otherwise just text what’s up…
On the second call, Wife wakes up/ picks up, says, Hey, everything okay?? MIL responds, your cousin and her son are going to come down for a bit to see yall… Wife responds, “we are not up for company, everyone is resting at the moment.” Then… 30 minutes later. MIL calls me, which I am busy so don’t respond, then immediately calls our 15 year old son’s phone, which I pick up… A bit perturbed at this point, I say “What’s Up?” “Well, they want to come see your chickens and your pig..”. I say… “Like Wife just said… We are not really up for company right now…” She says “Well they really want to, I will walk up there with them”.
I hung up mid-sentence with her.
They haven’t shown up yet.
For Reference, MIL and FIL live within 100yd walk back on the property. Everything’s always kosher between us, forever, but this one has me a bit… Shitty… Also, we just saw the visiting family yesterday, as well as on Christmas, and are going to see them tomorrow… So it’s not like we are being distant as a family IMHO…
